A psychotic episode could be defined as a temporary rupture from reality, triggered by multiple factors. The most common are: sustained severe stress, emotional overexposure, a traumatic episode, or the use of some type of hallucinogenic drug.
02. My Diagnosis
The affected person presents with delusions and/or hallucinations. There must be evidence from the history, physical examination, or laboratory tests that the symptoms developed during and shortly after substance intoxication or withdrawal, or after medication intoxication, and that the substance or medication involved can produce the presenting symptoms. The disturbance causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.
